ARTIST/PRODUCER, PARADE OF FRIENDLY MONSTERS

In times like this, the monsters come, to guide us through the change.
They come from all around the world whenever things get strange.

With fright’ning heads and clanging bells and furs and branches too,
they say goodbye to things gone past, and beckon in the new.

And this November, if you dare (no need to be afraid)
please join the friendly monsters on their winter-time parade! Continue reading “ARTIST/PRODUCER, PARADE OF FRIENDLY MONSTERS”

COURSE DIRECTOR, SCREEN/PLAY

I designed, managed and co-taught two 12-week professional development courses in the theory and practice of film programming, funded by Creative Skillset and supported by Goldsmiths, University of London.

Participants think about the meaning and purpose of programming, and take on practical projects that culminate in researching and running their own film screening events. Course alumni have gone on to work for BFI, MUBI, Film London and Fringe! Queer Arts & Film Festival.

CREATIVE CAREERS COACH

I offer one-to-one and group coaching for people looking to develop their practice in the creative industries. Using a range of coaching tools, I help artists, writers, performers, producers and dreamers to identify challenging goals – and give them the support to achieve them. And, unlike in traditional ‘hands-off’ coaching, I can also bring my own life experience, passion and networks from over a decade working as an arts producer, fundraiser and academic.

CURATOR, DESIGN ON FILM

In 2014 I curated an installation and event series for London Design Festival at the V&A Museum, exploring how design alters our perception of reality.

I developed the programme by working with architects, galleries, universities and artists. As well as developing the film programme (sponsored by MUBI), I curated a week-long installation of short films showcasing cutting-edge motion graphics, CGI environments and digital art. FESTIVAL DIRECTOR, NOLLYWOOD NOW

The Nigerian video film industry – aka Nollywood – is the world’s second largest film industry, yet until recently very few people outside of the African diaspora had heard of it.

In 2010 I curated and managed a six-night festival of Nigerian video film – the first festival of its kind in the UK. Acting as a public celebration of Nollywood’s global achievements, the festival included a panel discussion featuring film-makers, broadcasters and academics, as well as screenings introduced by industry insiders. DIRECTOR, DEPTFORD FILM CLUB

Screening arthouse, cult, world cinema, trash and a lot of sing-alongs, Deptford Film Club won a commendation for best film programming at the 2012 Film Society of the Year Awards.

My first big arts project, this is where I learned how to secure funding, do market research, manage event licensing, run tech equipment, design posters, plan marketing campaigns, develop industry contacts – and curate cinema. Continue reading “DIRECTOR, DEPTFORD FILM CLUB”
